Finaly, 1st ES this season for worked 20 QSOs (before I heard several ES signals few days before, but no QSOs)
19 finished QSO, 6xF and 11xG & 2xGW
SSB winner wth 12 QSOs when SIGs go'es UP, better than FT8 where make 7 QSOs before ES started or when go'es down .
I also suggest more work on SSB when signals are high,
Thanks, 73 and CUAGN

This has been a long during opening, but I was sitting right on the edge here. Was seeing stations just a few kms away working stuff I could not receive at all. Nevertheless it was fun and I even made a number of new grids with it.
I had a 2nd receiver for SSB/CW (RTL-Stick), but I did not get anyone here. Or I made something wrong....

Hello again !
It looks like we had 4 openings this day....
1st: dir CT/EA SSB nil , heard almost 15 different calls,ONLY f......g FT8

2nd: EA6 , 4 different calls in FT8 with +++dB-signals ! Where are ur mikrophones ????? 1 QSO Phone

3rd: SV/LZ/YU/Z32......bombastc signals +++++dB on 174....nearly 20 different
stations were "copied".......finaly good activity around 300/SSB.

4th: UR5.......only monitoring 174 because of BBQ

SO MUCH MORE QSO could have been done if only guys use their mikrophones .
C U next arround 300/PHONE !

First strong and long lasting opening for me in 2022 kept me busy from afternoon till late in the evening. Highlight was 4X/OM2IB (mixed ES/Tropo), my 2nd 4X after years. Many other good DX hrd but not completed. Giant reports in FT8, shame that nobody was heard in SSB! 70MHz was open all around Europe on my dipole, even EA8 but nobody QRV. Hope for more to come in the next days!

All QSO in mode FT8, except SV9CVY in SSB. It was a nice feeling to hear a human voice on 144.300.
Is there a special new modus in FT8 during ES?
I had 5 other stations from the east that answered my report immediately but never gave me "R" or "RR73". That's not according to the rules and therefore they are not in my logbook.
Let's see what tomorrow brings.

First E sporadic usable for me this year from the west of Brittany (near the city of Brest).
Long duration opening , relatively stable, huge signals but also sometimes deep QSB with Italian stations.
At the beginning I had to use the FT8 mode with very strong reports because nobody heard in SSB ... !!!
Then a lot of contacts done in SSB but not enough in my opinion. It would have been possible to make a lot more contacts in SSB, but why are so many stations stuck in FT8?
Then no one heard in SSB while I heard severalYO, RC, UW, SV stations... in FT8 but without being able to complete the QSO.
As it has often been said, the FT8 does not make it easy to make QSOs in sporadic E because it is much too slow. It is really not the best mode for E sporadics.
Please guys find your mics back and don't be shy, It is so much nicer to hear each other than to chat with a computer. And QSO are much faster !
One of the Serbian stations told me he was sorry because I was the only French station he heard. He was making lot of desperate calls with no response when his signal was 59+ here without any QSB.
Thank you all and see you soon IN SSB please !!!

Big Es opening which lasted a long time, I had to QRT before the end. ZA/IK2RLN was strong but couldn't make a QSO. KN02 and KN12 were new grids for me. Great to see such an opening on 2m again, thanks for all the QSOs.

I was driving along the A616 when 144.300 SSB sprang into life with a end-stopping signal. IT9DJF was audible for some minutes but I heard nothing else until he faded and other G’s were calling Italy around 310. Traffics noise was bad and I was still travelling so the weaker signals were lost. I have a hands-free set-up in the car as driving safely was the priority. Good fun listening. 73, David

Earlier in the day there was an opening to EA, but I only decoded 2 stations EA7GNO & EA7RZ, niether were worked. Then the big one happened. Also heard/decoded were YU1LA, LZ2WY, LZ2LG, IT9DJF plus many others I didn't note down. didn't see the ZA ,TA, 4X or any other the later UA/US stations. that was probably Es + tropo' . 17 completed QSOs, 3 ATNOs. 73 Bob

GM8IEM using the special call GQ8IEM. All FT8. The opening started around 15:34 with IT9GSF coming in well, but not hearing me; it only started to get properly underway around 15:42 and ending at 16:44. Unfortunately I had to go out at 16:05, so missed the last 40 minutes of the opening, though I did leave JTDX running. During this opening the following stations were decoded and most would have been workable: IZ0CKN JN61, IZ0ZAD JN61, IC8FAX JN70, IC8AIK JN60, IW0REF JN62, IZ8OFO JN70, I8TWK JN70, IZ8IBC JN70, IZ8IBC JN70, I7CSB JN71, IK7UFX JN80, IZ7NLJ JN81, IK7FPV JN80, IW7DVM JN80, IK7EOT JN80, IZ7DPB JN80, IZ7UMS JN81 and IT9HTV JM76.

It has been a long day...
First short opening (1 min) to SV1 was not long enough for completing a FT8 QSO.
Early afternoon opening to CT/EA was longer but with severe QSB sometimes. The ES cloud then moved towards North, allowing EI and F to be worked. MUF was vey high in this phase, with QRB as short as 855 Km (F4KKV, JN16EQ, hrd only).
ES Cluds moved significantly, but most of the time they were too close to IV3 area to allow any Es contact.
Only after 18 UT a distant ES clod allowed some QSO with Russia.
BTW, yet another crazy, long and multi cloud ES opening, mixed with long MS bursts and Iono, as seen in previous days of the week.

Very nice opening to Spain, lasting about 40 min. I missed the first 17 min when my PC already recorded signals from EA4I in IM68MU and EA4GDA in IM68MV (both > 2640 km). But I was very happy to still work 9 stations once I was at the radio. Not sure if EA1VIL, EA1IW and EA1JM received my RR73 though. I heard also EA4GMY and EA2XR, both IN83, otherwise all wkd that heard.

Since EA is a difficult direction for me from home (I have first a row of trees in 50 m distance and then some mountains in 1-2 km distance) I decided to focus on FT8. However, I was checking 144,300 MHz when signals were strong in FT8 but nothing heard in SSB. Strongest signals were indeed from EA1P, over the largest distance!

Many thanks for all contacts and 3 new SQR!

Many thanks for my 1st 2m Es QSO in 2022 season. Also worked 30 SSB/CW contacts on 70 MHz including new 56th DXCC YT1Q KN04 via short-skip. Many more contacts could be worked if people aren't lazy to call CQ in SSB... Everybody look to .300 and if nothing is heard in 10s then they go immediately back on ,174., what a pity..

1st phase (EA/CT) : worked all stations heard. 2nd phase, I was operating remotely from my smartphone (FT8 only then), not very friendly user... so not many QSO's. Actively hunting for 4X but nil heard/seen in JO10XO.
Happy however having worked R6CS (peaked +08 FT8, so SSB/CW workable) for a new one. Also seen R6AS (KN85).

I definitely prefer SSB/CW but as far as digi modes are concerned, FT4 would be more efficient than FT8. I fully agree on the fact that at the peak of a Es opening, better use SSB/CW instead of FT8 (or FT4) ! More efficient time-wise and more fun too !

What an Es day! Several opening today. The early afternoon only gave me CN8LI, nothing heard here from CT and just 2 EA's were heard (FT8). Them the afternoon session... I was out for some shopping and when I came home worked 1 IS0 on FT8, but SSB was much more fun! 3 in 5 minutes, including a long QSO to get my call sign clear. And exchange names :-).
The last part was crazy. First an old fashioned "59+" opening into LZ. REALLY 59+!!! Great fun to hear voices again. But the biggest thrill came when I saw 4X/OM2IB on my screen. However, that was 1 hour after Chris, PA2CHR had worked 4X! I worked Jan (OM2IB), and worked 4Z5CX 10 minutes later as well. 3300 km is my new ODX!
The final part involved a big opening between DL and UA6. There was nothing here, until the very last moments when UC6A came in. the QSO may, or may not be complete, that depends what UC6A received from me. But even if NC: What a day: 4X in my log!!!

And SSB is FUN guys! :-)

SSB prefered but monitored 144.174 FT8 for long time and decoded a lot of stations from SE with good signals. However, I was there because 4X was reported via chordal ES and 4X via ES is on my bucketlist for a long time to push my SE ODX also above 3000 km. But no 4X decoded here. Did not respond to single hop ES as most stations and all squares are worked many times before.

It was a great day. For me the best spE day in years. I've heard TA1BM and some other stations from several directions. Not possible to finish the contact due to some local 'dx' between some new FT8-users and some tough novice amateurs...But I've had my first dx outside europe :-)

Very good opening into Spain direction. I spent a lot of time calling on 144.300 SSB and CW but unfortunately I did not heard any station. I hoped for a contact here because the FT8 signals from Spain were strong. Maybe next time. Thank you.

For me, this was the first better Sporadic this year on SSB. I didn't get to the beginning of the opening but I managed to do more stations from G. Also, I heard a lot more stations but due to the local PILE-UP I couldn't call them.
Anyway thank you for the connections, I enjoyed the opening that we had. Until next time,

73 & gl fm Misha, YU1MS.
