MUF was high from early morning. Around KO11/KO21 a hotspot developped which provided FT8 contacts before SSB was possible.

Nothing heard in SSB but in FT8 here in my bad location some stations.
FT8 isnĀ“t a good mode to work here in JO31. There is more QRM as real DX to see on the waterfall. It would be fine when all stations transmitting in the same periode (2nd) but many Germans and Netherlands can`t learn this game

Started on SSB band, but no chance with lot of QRO-stations, so switched to FT8-mode and made 5 nice contacts

Chaos on 144.174 FT8. Was monitoring there as I was too close to the clouds first. When seeing signals popping up immediately changed to SSB - no one there?! Calling CQ brought up RN3QR, tnx! Also UT8AL/EO10A on own CQs. Artur UR3EE was quite weak, sounded almost like Iono scatter but probably still ES. Switched back to FT8 only after opening was over. RX3QFM popped up there for few minutes only, signals weak so that's when FT8 makes sense! Else only stupid to stay on FT8 with big sigs ... hope people stop being lazy and get back to more efficient modes (yes, CW/SSB is way more effcient when band is open and you want to provide as many QSOs as possible). 73, Olli 'BQA

This opening was marginal in my QTH. Signals were extremely weak and only audible for some 30-60 seconds.
So just one QSO in FT8 was complete, two other stations called me but faded out before exchange of report.
No signals heard on SSB - and probably impossible to make QSO with such weak condx.

Heard mni others but only short. As usual in FT8 all TXing mixed 1. or 2. period. Middle EU is 2.period but nobody cares. A local DO stn close to me was TXing all the time in 1.period so I could not complete some QSO.

FT8 is nice software but with not understanding by some stations how to operate FT8 is a pain.

FT8 is a plague. This morning we had a nice ES into UA3 and UA4 and more than 90 percent of all stations were in FT8. What a nonsense. For example, UA4UK was audible for more than 20 minutes in FT8 with S9 . Imagine how many stations he could have worked in SSB. Many other UA3 were very very loud in FT8, almost all over S9. And in SSB? Just 4, you have to imagine that. This shitty mode ruines amateur radio. That is also because none of the idiots keeps to the right periods. Here in DL everyone does what they want, a huge chaos and QRM.

FT8 is ok when the signals are close to the noise floor or even below, when SSB stops working and in CW it's very difficult to decode anything with the brain. But it is utter nonsense to use FT8 if there are fat signals like ES. But many prefer to use the mouse rather than their brains.

Now bombard me with rotten tomatoes.

Very spotty opening here. Only 3 stations worked. FT8 in times of ES is a mess! Again some OMs did not care about the right period, so this ended up in a big chaos on 144.174. Super strong signals, but everybody was on FT8, result was poor activity in SSB. Moreover, I had to split my acttention between .174 and. +/- .300. Managed to catch R3PA on 144.300 though.

I would just like to say that I completely agree with Udo DK5YA about FT8 chaos and it's ineffectiveness for 2m Es. I have a VFO and occasionally like to use it. I heard 4 additional stations that I could have worked on SSB who were glued to 144.174 and not completing a lot of QSOs due to the inevitable QRM. If we are going to continue to use FT8 other than an indicator of an opening then we need to educate users on how to behave during openings. All national societies should put an article in their magazine. I was often flattened by ONs working PAs and PAs working DLs in the next square simply because they do not know any better.

Best would be to QSY to CW or SSB once an opening is established. Also I would encourage people to listen and not call indiscriminately, which seldom works.

Don't understand claims on FT8. Everyone can choose what he likes. If you can't complete the QSO and you have QRM - welcome, it's ham radio! No claims, just experience and luck!
I worked remotely, so FT8 for me was only possible way. There were much more stations from DL and OZ, but worked only three of them. Thanks for great activity and efforts to complete the QSOs in unstable short ES openings.
