23. July 2018

A nice Es opening at the end of this day. July seems to be making up for the poor month of June!

SV9CVY produced an amazing signal, including eastern parts of G!

It is the hell to live behinde a 150 m high mountain wall close to the house. Needed 45 Minutes to have a clear and loud signal from Tom, SV8PEX, and i was happy to work him in a new square wich was my # 400 on terrestrical.

Heard very weak SV9CVY when he was a long time 59++ 5 Km away.

Anyway, for me it was a nice opening although one QSO only. Not often i have the chance to work Greece by ES or MS

Two different ES events. The first was a pico opening announced by Istambul VOR followed by a strong 1min presence of UC6A for the first QSO.
The second event one hour later was announced by Bulgarian VORs (Brasov, Warna). Since the Secant Law is not a joke , it was time for someone more distant than me from the scatter point to see 2m MUF. In effect SV8PEX started his qsos using the same Scatter Point. Then It was just to wait that the MUF grew to see the Rumanians and Bulgarians. The foES over the Scatter Point should have reached very high level because i got YU5PD KN04 at 982Km. The night ended with a beautyful qso with Kadri TA1D

All the signs were there - 6m opened to west coast US from SV and MUF was also high towards E. Suddenly YU,Z6 were workable on 6m ES from here and that was the time to switch to 2m.
There were 2 openings, one from UA6 into SV (of which i fumbled completely), F and I and the second, looong opening with X-point over the Adriatic. Needless to say, 2 hours of ES is always a bonus this late into the season and, apologies to all i didn't work, i had to put my daughter to sleep and some may have heard her complaining over the mic ! :) I missed at least 6 stations due to QSB but highlight was having G4SWX doing live commentary on my sig report every 20 mins (always being 59 here). 3 new squares and 1st QSO to G-land since 2009.
