12. June 2013

In the early morning ES was reported from southern France towards the Canarian Islands. Later, around 13.00 GMT, an active region developed above the Netherlands providing Es for some Scandinavian stations into France and from Scotland into Italy.
MUF stayed high whole afternoon. Two reflectionzones developed almost at the same time so enough to work for everybody. Very good to see that Algeria was active and 7Q5QB could give many stations a new DXCC and new#. Also very long distance worked by CT1HZE towards Finland via chordal, aprox. 3600 km.

When everything was quite again a very short opening between PA and CT was reported again around 18:45 GMT

Came home, saw cluster, and listened direction to CT but the spot was too much W from here. Then suddenly a signal - SM0KAK. Worked him with 25 W barefoot and wrong antenna direction. Gone after 1 minute.

Nearly 1 h later the second event started - 7X - finally! - He started in the noise and signal was rising to S9+ when I could make the QSO. Hrd him for more than 25 minutes, most of the time loud. Very big pile-up but a good OP could handle it.

2 QSO, 2 new #, and DXCC #51. A fine day :-)

The opening to OH went up and down. Short QSO with OH1AF, but I lost him in the noise.
First F stations called 7X5QB with raport 59. 7X5QB was initially very weak to hear, but then up to S9 .
7X5QB the highligth of the sporadic E season and for many spordic hunters a first connection with 7X.

baby sitting(3 girls!) and sporadic E on 2m is a bad connection........

I had worked LY44WFF this morning on MS and was very surprised to work them again on Es this afternoon. I had waited to work KO05 for many years then worked it twice in 1 day - amazing.
Listened through the 2nd phase but nothing at all heard. Before the 3rd phase had started my XYL insisted we went out so completely missed that one. Pity it was the best one and the one where I most probably would have worked some new locators. Never mind, at least my XYL has spent some of my money and she is happy.

Have been waiting (long) the "cloud" to 7X moves a bit to the West (otherwise 7X was max S1 during that period), for me to work 7X5QB. It finally did but in the meantime, I heard OH5LK with my antenna QTF South. 2 fine Es spots at the same time on 2m, not so usual.

VERY surprising opening, hrd CT and YL/ES at same time, one on back of antenna. Decided to stay out of the crowd during the peak and to hunt for something new only. That resulted in 59+ QSO with 7X5QB in JM25 for a new #. MEGA pile up on his freq, excellent opr !

Today it was very nice to see how Sporadic E can change it's behaviour minute by minute. Even after 36 years I'm thrilled how a silent band can change into a mess within seconds. It keeps facinating....
When the ES started I looked around and worked Joe, CT1HZE, for our "annual" QSO. As soon as I discovered that 7X5QB was around I only focussed on him and succeeded to work him for DXCC #122 and # 896.
As there were two places to beam I decided to have a look to the north as ES to north is rare for us.
